I'm glad I went to see what the excitement was about but I probably won't go again. It was just disheartening watching people shove carrots into tortoises mouths and chucking pellets at animals who clearly do not want any judging by how many are on the ground.
I have two main issues:
1. Only a few of their animals had grass in their exhibits the rest were gravel or dirt and a mixture of stones. There was hardly any enrichment items in their pens as well except for the primates. Barely any trees or any kind of greenery. Kind of a dreary life if you ask me. Some of the pens were also very small for the kinds of animals and number of animals they had in them. The pen they had the wolves in wasn't any bigger than the fence I have my dog in.
2. The pricing is kind of ridiculous especially for 60% of their animals are livestock. The admission is $14/adult and if you want to feed the animals it's pretty much another cost of the ticket to get in. If I wanted to go see goats, donkeys, etc. I'd go to the farm down my road for free. The Syracuse zoo, which is lovely and has a good variety of animals, only costs $8 to get in. Plus last time I was at the Syracuse zoo I had a wonderful, educational experience with a zoo keeper who was doing a demonstration in the red panda exhibit. When I was at the Adventure Park I listened to one of the keepers talk about bears, listing off some facts, some of which were not correct, and also giving his personal opinion of hunters. Which it's a private company so whatever. Just off-putting.
Went with a friend and it was quite a long ride (2 hours) but worth it!! LOVED the giraffes especially and was thrilled to feed them carrots! April is so sweet and sticks her l-o-n-g tongue out to grasp the carrot. Her baby is precious and looks about half grown. There is quite a variety of other animals - kangaroos, camels, water buffalo, small monkeys, and black bellied sheep (who make amusing barfing sounds) and all of the animals seem well cared for and content. Wish it were closer, but is a nice ride and I hope to go again!
This is a must do! It's not huge but you can easily spend a day, even more, there if you love animals. The animals are happy and well taken care of. The staff are fantastic. You can feed and interact with most of the animals. I cannot say enough good things about this place it's a 10 hour drive from our house and I would do it again. They have recently purchased more property so there are expansions coming in the near future.
For the price this place is awesome! The staff is friendly and knowledge. It is both a petting zoo and an educational zoo. It has a wider variety of animals from "April the giraffe" to bears, cougar, hyena and many more species than expected. The park is clean and very family friendly!! We came from Cleveland, included Animal Adventure Park in our vacation plans and we're very happy we did.
Very clean place to visit. Animals appear happy. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Glad to have this wonderful place in our back yard. If you have opportunity, they put on wonderful shows where they actually let you touch the animals (when appropriate!)
